Advanced: Violin Book 7+, Viola Book 6+, Cello Book 7+ (or equivalent)
Advanced students looking for a challenging and exciting week of learning are encouraged to apply. This program requires students to have strong music reading skills. An audition video is required to join the advanced level. Please submit a video of a polished piece which best represents the student's current technical/musical abilities, along with registration or email an unlisted Youtube video to: info@spacecitysuzuki.org by April 1st, 2024.
The course will begin on Sunday afternoon, 6/23/24 in a different location in Katy. Students age 12 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult
Preparation
Students will need a memorized and polished piece to play in their individual Masterclass.
Students will receive an out-of-repertoire piece (i.e. not from the Suzuki books) that needs to be learned and memorized before arriving at Institute for repertoire class. Also, orchestra parts and chamber music will be sent out well in advance, which needs to be learned ahead of time! It will be a busy week of rehearsing and music making, so be prepared!
Sample Schedule
Students will be placed in groups based on their age and level. This is a sample schedule only, your child’s classes may be arranged in a different order.
9:00-9:55 Orchestra Students will work on their music reading and ensemble skills.
10:00-10:55 Masterclass-Students will be put in a small group of students at a similar level. Each student will have a mini-lesson and observe the other students in their lesson. Please bring a memorized and polished piece on the first day.
11:15-12:00 Recitals
12:00-1:00 Lunch
1:00-1:55 Practice Seminar Students will meet with a member of faculty to establish practice goals and implementation strategies during this hour.
2:00-2:55 Repertoire Class This class will focus on the out-of-repertoire piece chosen for each student as well as Suzuki repertoire that will need to be prepared in advance.
3:00-3:55 Chamber Music Students will be organized in small groups to develop their ensemble and leadership skills.
4:00-4:55 Technique Class This class will focus on the finer details of instrumental technique and help the students take their playing to the next level.
